I dug this play coin today ~ it's very generic ~ anyone know when and who made it?

It's round and made of aluminum ~ about 22 millimeters in diameter (about the size of a US quarter) ~ reads, PLAY MONEY on one side ~ and 5 on the other side.

Little is known about this "bullseye" Play Money series, although a number of varieties are listed on p. 32 of Richard F. Clothier's Play Money of American Children. All were valued at 50¢ at the time of the book's publication (1985). Here's a link to p. 32 of the online edition. (When it loads, click on it to enlarge the page.)

I found some play money that looks similar to yours.
I found mine near a river at an old picnic area near some
1940s wheat cents.
