Detector(s) used
White's XLT & Quick Draw II
Correct me if I'm wrong, but shouldn't iron pyrite show up on a metal detector? Well, this piece here does not show on my XLT at all! Even in all metal mode I get nada.

Could this be something else?

This piece here looks metallic as well and is VERY heavy, but again, nothing in all metal mode...

Any ideas from the rock hounds?

Looks like quartz crystals on a base of shist. Shists have the look of metal, but are not metallic. Could be part of a pocket wall or vug.

are the 2 pics of the same rock? I that's been established, sorry for the thick headedness...but...

rock one looks like orpiment and the 2nd one looks like schist.

That's my uneducated 2 cents

Well schist! I forgot to mention that those are 2 different rocks!

Not anything I have to ID now, but I've often wondered about them.

First one looks like Garnet but I am thinking more along the way of calcopyrite? Possibly Curpite?
Can you scratch it with a knife?
