Unknown Stirrup

I found this item last year while digging a Civil War camp area. I haven't been able to find anything similar. I know there is a good chance it would be civilian but was just wondering if anyone knew any different.

I have three iron stirrups but I can't tell you a thing about them. They could be soldier used or civilian used. I would run that thru electrolis if possible. Nice find.

Yea a bit of electrolysis would do no harm....

Kinda hard to say dcooper1,check out this one(MS39) at this site http://www.iglou.com/btreasure/camp.htm ,almost look's identical but it doesn't say much but "CW period"......kinda lost on this one too Nice Find

Thanks for the info. It is identical to the MS39 listed on that site.
I found it in a camp area but it was also near an old mill and a river crossing so I wasn't sure if it was civilian or military.

I did start trying to "cook" it shortly after I found it. The top started getting pretty thin so I stopped. Maybe I will try again and hook my electrode up the the heavier part at the bottom. It was at the top last time I tried, may expalin the extra wear.

When I see something referred to as "CW-Era" on a site, I think folks would like to Imply a CW camp or battlefield provenance, but really the item could be civilian. I commend people for listing their relics as such. But unless the stirrup is marked (and few if any iron ones were), I think it'll just have to be another CW-Era stirrup. I have a few that I'm putting through the tank right now... When I post my year-end Wrap-Up for my team, I will post all my stirrups from this year. I think I have six or seven good ones--and I recall one that looks similar to yours.
