Yesterday I acquired a large coin collection and last night as I was looking in one of the cigar boxes I found this penny. Very unusual looks like the material is either Steel or possibly zinc. The strange part to me is the image of Lincoln,"in God we trust" and liberty are all reversed which makes me wonder if this wasn't a broken die? or I suppose it could be someone just smashed a penny onto some steel?

You could do a hardness test on the back. If it was a die it should be hardened.

A magnet will tell you whether it's steel or zinc. Not a die though.

Just for giggles I looked up 1950 D error pennies. Some were or may even still be quite valuable. I wonder if somebody found a way to duplicate the error with this. Check 1950 D BIE pennies out. There are others that are more valuable . Just an off the wall thought.
