UPDATE: 1/19/08 Read 1st post. Man o' Man. Would have been my first, w/o digging

Today at work...a customer comes through my line and as she's giving me change, she says, "Is this an old coin or what?" I look at it and say..."OH MAN...it's a Standing Liberty!!" She says, "I'm keeping that one!" Dang blast it...well, atleast she let me take a pic of it :-\...almost had it too!!! UGH!!!!!!!!!!

Well, ya'll said it would come back to me and it did last night!! I wasn't the closing manager, but I was able to count down the tills and lo and behold....look what I found!!!!!! It has no date...but that's ok...it's my VERY FIRST BUFFALO NICKEL!!!!!!!!!! I'm so stoked! I am the closing manager tonight and Sunday night....OH BOY...can't wait to see what lays in the tills for me tonight and tomorrow!!!! Remember, I only check the tills when I am the closing manager...otherwise, it's just mine or if one of the kids tell me they found a coin they think I want....I can't wait to see how my collection grows over this next year!!!!!! The coins are there....just gotta' have patience!

Thanks for looking!!
Annmarie

Re: Man o' Man....it would have been my first...without digging....

Oooooh! So close...lol.
That's why I never complain about being called up to cashier, ya never know what you'll find. I try to keep some money on me ... just in case I HAVE to buy coins. ;)

My favorite was 2 yrs ago, (4) 1922 Liberty Dollars. Sold 2 to friends, kept 2 for my boys.

Re: Man o' Man....it would have been my first...without digging....

being a cashier you can get plenty of old coins . i worked at a hardware store for almost 2 years and at least 5 wheat pennies a week ,many war nickels over the time .

a couple silver quarters also my co workers would pull coins and trade them at face to me i miss it now lol

Just the other day i was detecting a old park, and a "old crusty drunk" comes up to me and asks have you found any of these....."Standing Liberties", and shows me the quarter......he said he found it up the road in the grass.....I didn't believe that for a minute.......then he said he would sell it to me.......I offered 2 bucks, cause it was worn bad....he looked puzzled said no thanks i sell it to the coin dealer and walked away.
i did my hunt....i thought if i should have offered him more.....maybe......i was getting ready to leave and i see the same guy yelling at me from down the block, with a old drunk woman at his side, as they finally got to me, she asked what i would give for the coin i said i don't know what it was worth, and offered 3 bucks again they looked puzzled.....they turned around and mumbled up the street......i wasn't going to five bucks........because that's all i had on me.....and I needed lunch later.....I looked it up Standing Liberty Quarter 1926......very worn....I don't think I would have payed 5.00 bucks for it.....They must have thought it was worth like 20.00 bucks or something........

...sorry for the long High Jack!!!!!!!!

Re: Man o' Man....it would have been my first...without digging....

Great story and pictures. Too bad about not getting to keep it. >:(

Re: Man o' Man....it would have been my first...without digging....

Thanks ya'll....lesson learned...DO NOT ACT EXCITED when asked if the coin is old!!! LOL....

It was hard to read the date. She said she could see 25 as the last two numbers...but I couldn't see anything. When I downloaded the pics...I still couldn't see it...oh well...no sense crying over spilled milk...I have learned my lesson!!!!

Hopefully next pic is one that I get to keep :):):)

PS:...I'm a manager and I get to count down the tills (when I am on the night shift...during the day, it's too busy to be doing that...so I go through my till...sometimes one of the kids will say, "MS Ann...is this a coin you want?"...:)) Got quite a few War Nickels from Oct - Dec 2007...now starting my new jar for the 2008 season (Jan-Dec) to see how many OLD coins I can get from the registers!!! Even found a 1985 S PROOF NICKEL!!! It sure is purdy!!! LOL and 1 1964 Kennedy half....plus a few 1962-1964 Rosies....I wish I had been looking when I first came off of retirement and went back to work...dang it LOL....At the end of the year...I plan to post all the wonderful TILL HUNTING FINDS!!! Keep posted ;)

Re: Man o' Man....it would have been my first...without digging....

Ann....... that's where all my silver came from!
Lol, I can't figure out how to make my pic smaller or I'd post the 2 Peace Dollars. I scanned em but I get the Error mess. too big.
I think it would be fun to share "drawer" find pics!

Hang in there Ann. There will be bigger and better days ahead. One got away but how many have you managed to hold on to? LOL HH

Yea, that would be cool....posting our TILL HUNTING FINDS!!!! I'll have to gather what I collected from Oct-Dec 2007 (as that is when I started) and post those and at the end of the year...I'll post all my 2008 finds!!!

I would have probably sone the same thing, cause I get excited about old coins also.

Oh well...maybe next time.

I love when old silver falls into your lap...I had a coworker get a Mercury dime in their change and she gave it to me. She said "you like coins so here is a Canadian dime". I told her it was US and silver but she wanted me to have it anyway. Thank you very much. Beats getting your hands dirty but not by much.

You did the right thing, so don't feel bad.

Remember the old adage, What goes around, comes around.
So now this woman sees you as honest, and you helped her
find a little treasure. Maybe she will come to you in the future
as she now trusts you. Or the universe will pay you back in some way.

My 2-cents worth.

nice finds

Re: Man o' Man....it would have been my first...without digging....

I'm with uncle vinny, you did the right thing, especially if the lady was eldery.

Good deed, good karma, which I believe is a driving factor in what we find and when we find it. (Another thread jack), the dirt I was recently hitting was heavily contested. I went up one day with nothing and talked to an old man who said it'd probably be OK if I hunted... he also said he was picking up broken china for his wife. Being the kind of person I am, I picked up about 5 big side pockets full for him, those other dudes were too self consumed to even say "howdy" much less help somebody..and even the old man never picked up any himself... anyway, the next day something had happened that was borderline fisticuffs >:( and the guy "in charge" was wanting to run people off... long story short, the old man was connected, vouched for me.... and I got a pass 8).. while I didn't find any super duper big ticket items, I walked with something near and dear to me, 2 inkwells. Eyeballed them in backhoe carnage no less.

Chitlin

I won one at the CTH, a 1928.

You did the right thing and you will be rewarded for it :)
