US Box Plate! And some other goodies!

[flyinryan2]

I got out yesterday with my cousin in the first time in several weeks to my aunts house near Warrenton. We found lots of flat buttons and an old coin each but the US Plate was the best find of the day. I was in the back yard near an old cabin and had been digging lots of trashy signals then got this "to good to be true" signal, dug down three inches reached under a root and out popped what I thought was a spoon mouth. Boy was I wrong when I turned it over and saw the US staring at me. I dug what looks like a sling hook right before the Boxplate but I have never seen one like it. I ended up with 18 buttons, two dog tags one from 1922, brass pieces and an 1875 Indian Head Penny. A great day spent out with family!
Thanks for looking and HH!

Did you clean the box plate?

[flyinryan2]

Did you clean the box plate?

Just with a tooth pick and tooth brush. I glued that piece that came off back on and I'm just waiting for it to dry all the way before I post pics of it all cleaned up.
Did any of your buttons have back marks? None of mine did.

Just the one had a back mark. Stars at the top and said London at the bottom.
