Not really finds unless you count recovery of coins I buried. I have seen a few videos of buried test coins and how the MD reacts to certain coins and depths. I buried some coins this morning to run my own test to see if I may learn something. All coins were buried about 6 -8 inches deep.
Buried were
40's Wheat Penny
05 Indian Head Penny
50's Nickel
62 Rosie
63 quarter
72 50 cent piece
76 Silver Dollar
Using the AT Pro in coin mode, disc. set at 25 and sens. full, and auto ground Bal. I think at 91 I began swinging over the pre planted targets. To my surprise not one signal on the wheat, so on to the Indian, yes a good clear signal low 70's. The nickel was a weak jumpy signal. The rest of the targets gave off decent signals except the silver dollar, which was weak and broken. I really figured the dollar would have thrown the best signal. So I set ground balance to 55 with much better results. Little better signal on the dollar but still broken, and stronger signals on the other targets except the wheat. (I could catch a very slight random signal on the wheat after swinging over and over as I knew it was there.) Walking along I would have never caught that signal in a real hunt.
So what I learned is you really can't trust the display, but listen to the signals. And even with that to be successful you really need to dig all targets. Now my only problem is, how many targets have a passed up with either no or very crappy jumpy signals? I'm usually pretty good about digging signals after testing and determining the size of the target since I am more into finding coins, tokens, and jewelry.
Really glad I did this test, really learned a lot about setting up my machine and what to expect with different signals. I would recommend everyone doing this to get the best feel for their machine and settings, I was really amazed at what I learned. I plan to do more garden tests to get my machine tuned the best I can. And for that elusive wheat, I will tune until I find you!!!
