Dug this today. Someone used it on a nail back in the day. Worst one I ever found. May get a date later.

I have heard that large cents were used as replacement washers when needed. Coins were sometimes also nailed to the beams of houses as they were built for good luck.

Actually pretty cool, beats a pop top, lol. Good Luck

I believe its a 1895. I worked hard to get a date. I'm at 18-5. Will put final pics up when or if I can. :)

Seen a lot of "holed" coins on Tnet..but yours wins for size! Congrats on a very unique Indian!

After the comments I guess it's not so sad after all. Haha

At least you can make out what it is still. Any Indian head is nice any chance you found it where they took a house down?

There was a house there at one time. No signs of it now but the elderly lady who owns the property said it was there. I got a lot of old coins in the property.

I'm slowly bringing it back....

Very nice how are you cleaning it?

That thing was so bad, I might have tossed it in my trash pouch, because I probably would not have recognized it as an IH. Congrats on finding it, knowing what it was and apparently cleaning it well!:icon_thumright:

I will have to post it again now that I think its as good as it can be. You can even get the date but it's very hard to see because it took the most abuse. All I did to clean it was give it a soak in distilled water and then put it in olive oil for a few days. Every once in awhile I would pull it out and wipe it to see if any more dirt/rust from the nail would come off. (:

Cool thanks for sharing your method

Well it was kinda guess work. I didn't even know if it would help that rough of a coin out. But it for sure didn't hurt it! :)

Thats pretty wild!, A conversation piece for sure.
