Very Unusual-NewPics! UPDATE! It's OPEN!!!!!

I found this out in the barn while I was moving some old boards . The bottom and top are glass .

There is some stuff inside it - a scrap of material on one side , and a ring shaped thing on the other side .
It is corroded shut . I swabbed some wd40 on it to help loosen it .
maybe tomorrow I can twist it off ?

Mistake. Apologize, put it back together and put it back. It wasn't meant to be opened.

Why could'nt he open a monacle case?

The nails look like a large dogs nails... but who knows.

It's not a monacle. It's not a monacle case. Who the heck would seal a monacle closed? Why is there a woven piece of cloth and three beads with a monacle?

This wasn't meant to be opened. There are forces at work here. Finding it and thinking it interesting was one thing. Opening it...just seal it back up and put it back.

Maybe time sealed it? Maybe it was for something else... what do you think it might be Trish?

Honestly, at first I thought it was a memorial piece with the grey hair woven in amid the cloth. The claws perhaps a reminder of a strong personality or they might have belonged to a cherished pet of some kind. But now, seeing the three beads attached with the woven cloth and the claws...it's an amulet. Meant to keep something away. It's not an talisman or it would have been made to be worn, to attract something.

Honestly, you all can think I'm a fruit loop but seal it again please.

Interesting... would it hold power, do you think, even if the "opener" is not a superstitous person?

I don't think your a fruit-loop... you are obviously a believer.

If the opener interfered with it's destiny, yes.

The fact that it was found and pondered about...fascinating, not really a problem. Opened...that was a no no.

It's quite possible the opener was supposed to find this thing and place it somewhere else. Part of the story of it's journey.

But no, honestly I don't think it was ever meant to be opened. Found, perhaps. But not opened.

Seal it back up so it can continue to do whatever was wished upon it to do.

Remember, you have to put it back on a dark and stormy night when the Moon is down.

I am pretty sure that a ring of animal claws is to protect the owner....make them invulnerable

i know! i know!
I think trish is right. amulet. put it back together and put it back in that barn.

ya know how birds have been known to collect shiny things? ( like that car wash that found lots of quarters on the roof,....set up the camera and caught the bird getting the coins out?)

barn owl that got to be like a pet, watched out in the barn and when it died they found the 3 beads and scrap fabric in it's nest. So they sealed up his stash so he could continue to protect.

Mojjax....your barn? If so; how long have you lived owned it ? and you keep finding neat stuff :) and if it is your barn, it's now maybe protecting you :)

that's all I've got, since my sewing -chate didn't work out

Woven fabric, beads, and claws? First thing that comes to my mind is Indian artifact. It my be an Indian good luck charm sold on the side of the road somewhere. But, I think there is definitely Indian influences here.

My 2 cents,
John

it is a cool item, I'd put it in a display case, I would have ZERO worries you were doing something wrong by opening it. Cool find, no way I'd seal it up and put it back

It is the remains of an alien found at Roswell. Quick, put on your aluminum foil hat before it takes over your brain. Once it takes hold of your mind millions will come from outer space, maybe. Or maybe from New York City. I saw a lot of alien looking people there when I spent the night in JFK on a layover. Monty

I thought owl talons too, but when you lookat talons compared to claws, talons seem skinnier. These look like they have been split? so maybe they just appear wider. The cloth and beads made me think gypsy. Didn't they have some kind of voodoo? Really neat find. I hope it gets solved.

My friend at school lived in a very old house from the 17th century (i think). while they were having work done the builders found a box inside the chimney. The box contained a cat! I saw it and it was just a skelleton, but still had skin and some fur on it!

They were told by a museum that it was put there to keep witches away, and were advised to keep it on the property!
It was kept in the barn from then!
