VA Photo ID Cards for All Veterans Coming in November | Military.com

All honorably discharged veterans of every era will be able to get a photo identification card from the Department of Veterans Affairs starting in November due to a law passed in 2015.
The law, known as the Veterans Identification Card Act 2015, orders the VA to issue a hard-copy photo ID to any honorably discharged veteran who applies. The card must contain the veteran's name, photo and a non-Social Security identification number, the law states.
A VA official on Wednesday confirmed the cards are on track to be available nationwide starting in November. Veterans may apply for the card online, but a timeline for how long it will take to receive a card after application has not been finalized, the official said.
No details were released on when that application process will open, what information veterans will need when applying or the web address they will use.
Although the law states that the VA may charge a fee for the card, the official said no fee is planned.

Outstanding! Been waiting for that

Why would i need one?

What is the purpose of the card? Already have a drivers license.

I know some retail stores give a discount to vets so, maybe this could help with that. Is this supposed to replace the DD-214?

I already have the healthcare card. I don't know that I need this card. I did go take a quick look, still pondering....

Thanks for posting Terry!

No, nothing can replace your original DD-214, but in some cases the new card will be accepted instead of the DD-214, as legal proof of your Honorable Service. I carry a copy of my DD-214, even though I have my photo VA card. :skullflag:

Helps at Lowe's and whoever else offers vet discounts

I carry my photo va card as well. Maybe it could be of use to vets not rated by the VA.

It speeds up access to VA medical care too.

I don't know, Terry. What questions will be asked to get this card? Just to be the Devil's advocate, is this a way to put ALL vets into a data base.... all in one place? Based on recent VA events, I'm a little skeptical. This was passed in 2015.... during a period when the admin was down on Vets. Get where I'm going with this? As for me, give me liberty.... wrong quote. Many Vets need this recognition but .... I don't know, Terry. Nothing personal, friend. ╦╦Ç

There is only one VA card that the VA accepts as proof of medical benefits. I don't think this would be the purpose of this new card. ╦╦Ç

My drivers license already has "veteran" on it. This new card?, Only if I can use a photo when overseas at the tender age of 18, I looked a lot better then, over what I do now at 65.

Thanks, Terry!

Lowes offers 10% percent discount. If you have a Lowes card and bring your DD-214, they can update their computer so that your Lowes card will automatically show a discount when you use it at the check out.

Roger that, sprailroad! I want one to show at my high school reunion so that when I run into some 65+ year old chick who I used to think was hot, they know what I was doing while their pu**y husbands were at Woodstock or hiding in Canada. LOL

I just keep one of my dogtags on my keychain. That's worked fine for discounts where offered. Thanks for the "headsup" Terry.

I like that idea! ╦╦Ç

(the Veteran on the D L I mean!)

I have my veteran status on my CHL card. Guess I need to update it to my DL also. New card can't hurt anything but wan't really benefit from it either since I already have proof of veteran status.
