Here is a quick round up of our latest finds, from our property and an old road not far away:
Best of the bunch is this nice Victorian 10 cent from 1898, that my son got the other day. Odd thing was, we walked along an old road for about 1.5 kms and nothing, then I got an 1823 half penny in the middle of the road, 5 feet from that my son got a 1950's Canada 1 cent and a couple feet from that this 10 cents. Then nothing again. There was absolutely nothing special about the spot and no reason to stop there and I doubt if there ever was.
Another nice find is this small broach. At first we thought it might be topaz, but I doubt it due to the inexpensiveness of the setting. I assume it is most likely glass, although it is not scratched and I can see no bubbles.
Here is a nice 4 hole button. I'll go out on a limb and say that this is a brace button
Here is a interesting clasp that is decorated on what I thought would have been the back. Does anyone know if the two curled tines on the outer edges had any function beyond decorative?
A little two piece with what is assume is a Phoenix as I think it's rising from fire. If not a griffon.
Here are a couple of roasted Nova Scotia Thistles, an 1823 Half Penny Token from the road and an 1832 One Penny for our property. Too bad about the shape of the penny, I don't find a lot of those, it was in very wet ground.
Some nice gilding left on this plain flat button:
Here is a nice little watch winder, a copper alloy or bronze ring of some purpose, and the remains of a broach:
Found at the foot of a stone wall is this very bugs-bunnied shot, as well as a mis-aligned and half flattened one, and a dropped example.
I am not sure what this heavy brass or copper alloy bit is from. It is drilled at the broken end.
This is interesting, a latch of some sort I would think, looks like spring steel would have been attached:
Here is an old candle stick base:
A hanger of some sort, a strap end and a small buckle. We have found these before, they are always marked Paris 1872:
Here is a really nice chunky clock gear that I really like, and a key (barrel tap?) end:
Here is an unknown bit of heavy copper and a handle base. Both are thick and have some age to them:
Interesting how the handle base is pinned.
And finally a couple of in-situ musket balls:
