Came upon a church in downtown Phoenix that was vacant and had a For Sale sign on it. It didn't have any No Trespassing signs on the property, but I didn't want to just jump on the property so I detected the Rights of way on both sides of the main set of steps that lead to the main entrance. I saw on a block in the church that it was built in 1928. I was hoping that it might be virgin territory. Well, I was right. Within the first 10 minutes I found the small turqouise ring which I thought might be silver at first, but it's peeling and I can find no marks on it indicating silver so I don't believe it is. I also found the mercury dime and the wheat pennies. I also found a bunch of clad that isn't pictured. After some time without anyone questioning my presence there I went on to the property and got loads of coin signals. Went along another sidewalk to a side entrance and found a gold ring, which was very thin. I'll post it later in the week as my MD club newsletter editor has it for inclusion in the monthly newsletter.
Sure enough, about 30 minutes later a neighbor comes by and starts asking questions about what I was doing (it's not obvious is it?) and asks if I found anything. Since I was skeptical about why he was asking I just told him I found just a few coins. He said that I should call the owner just to introduce myself. He didn't think that the owner had a problem with me being there, but that I should 'introduce' myself. It was getting close to my meeting time so I was almost ready to go anyway. I took down the number for the owner. I called later in the week with the hope that I could go back...but he called me back and left a message that he didn't want anyone on the property. Darn, a good site going to go to waste. Oh well.

Yeah, when in doubt find out. There are a ton of places around me that I would give anything to hunt but unfortunately there is no way to find out who the owners are. On occasion I have been kicked out of public parks. That was always a suprise to me because it is Public. You would think that there would be no problem. This one park in Chesapeake, va. I had been hunting there for 2 years and made some good finds including a diamond 14kt mens wedding band. I even knew the grounds maintenance chief. She would always come and remind me to fill in my holes even though I always did. Then a new guy took over. He came over one day and told me in a very unfriendly tone to cover my holes and I told him that I always do. The next day the old chief came over and saide that I was no longer allowed and that there was a new city ordinance. She said it was not her call but that of this new guy. What a whimp that he could not come and tell me to my face. Still burns me. Sometimes you lose even when you have permission.
