I think they are later than Span- Am They look more mid-1900's to me. The don't have the detail of the Span_Am period buttons plus they are a lower convex that most of that period.They could be NG or might be state police uniform buttons. They have a black enamel on them. I think the starting price is to much. To be honest I wouldn't pay 10 cents each for them but thart's just me.

Don't know if this helps, but I believe this is what the post CW, pre-1893 version should look like from my collection. Obviously, mine's missing the shank.

His other VA's are late too. Just because the they are backmark EXTRA QUALITY doesn't mean they are civil war
Nate, your Va button is from the late 1800's. It was made into a hatpin at sometime. Your button is a staff officers and is 3 piece. The face rim and back. They had 2 piece buttons for enlistedmen that were a lower convex as well.
