🔎 UNIDENTIFIED WANT SOME OTHER EYES ON SOME THINGS... relative values or IDs ?

A few things I've found over the years and wanted some eyes that might give me a relative value, and age

1. A bronze pipe ?
2. This is a handheld SUNDIAL found on a beach in Spain, still has a piece of glass inside, it is threaded on the edges to close the case.
3. I call this the CHINAMAN because I don't know what it is, but some type of clip. found in a park in the USA, a sailer ? stepping on the hair of a chinaman ?
4. Bute plate from a Brown Bess ? Riffle dug on a battlefield in Spain. shank bent over we believe so that the enemy could not reuse it..
5. Silver handmade Rosery found in Spain, years ago. Cross originally had wood in it, but degraded. Wondering the value ?
6. Sterling love ring from WWII Philippines ? wondering the value ? I don't know where this is at the moment but will try to find it.


I'm will to try to sell some of this for the right price, but like the Sundial I suspect is worth a lot, I just don't know how much.
Added other photos of Chinese guy, this is about the size of a quarter.

As for the buttplate, you'd be surprised how bent they come out of the ground at times. Plowing, run over by military equipment, fire, environmental factors (Freezing/thawing of the ground), etc can cause them to become bent.

Would it be too much to ask for some clearer pictures of the sundial, and the pipe.
You might think that they are fine though, but the pipe photos are blurry and over exposed.
The sundial photos are dark.
Neither have size reference either.

Sure, but I'll have to dig these out of boxes, Pictures are old, Sundial fits nicely in the palm of my hand, round size about that of a silver dollar.
There is also a thimble I want to take a picture of, that I don't have. found them in Spain and thought they were Roman, only to discover on a recent Google search that Romans didn't have thimbles

Reproductions of compass sundials exist.
Comparing yours's gnome to others might help get an idea.
Fairly small workings hint they might not thrive in a salt beach type element.

Your gun butt plate has a single lug on it for a pin to go through.
Neither the short (Bess) or long pattern of that type show any lug. Rather a screw hole.

I'm not saying no Bess ever had your plate. I'm saying I am not finding a pinned example.
With the "pattern" types , consistancy was made more possible by having a pattern. Prior to that and beyond any given pattern remained other designs. Some one offs /unique. Though common parts existed in areas too.

How your piece was pinned might be a start as to what it might be off.

Now there's nothing like a good debate on a thimble.

But plate was dug on a Napoleon battle site in Spain, probably 1800's era, doesn't mean its a Brown Bess, I said that because someone else told me that... but that's why I came here...

Was dug on a beach in Spain, 1996 time frame, after a lot of big storms washed away tons of sand.... We found a lot during that time, a lot of old stuff, including 4 , 8 real cobs and a gold watch case.. (had no markings so I sold it for scrap) There is no way to know if any of this stuff came from the sea, or was buried in the sand and reappeared after the storm.

As for the Thimble, I did a Google search (which said Romans did not have them) and could not find any thimbles that resembled this one. I have to dig it out for some pictures but it is huge, big enough to cover your thumb to the hilt. with a pointed top instead of flat.

finding single screw Bess plate with a lug for a pin. And others just a single rear screw then one forward.

One group of parts had two plates including a lugged two holed plate stating one was for a French musket.
Could be a hint yours is French?

Am I losing it here.....But the photo in the first group it looks like the upper hole is off to one side, giving the impression that there would be two holes in the top portion of the plate.

Ok figured it out, the offset appearance of the hole is due to the curvature of the plate. Leaning towards a Brown Bess butt plate.

Here's two different Brown Bess butt plates with the tab and dual screw holes in the back portion of the plate.
