I almost got skunked in the creek today so I hit the field and almost got skunked again :icon_scratch:. Not everyday can be great.
I think the drift wood was the best find of the day. HH, rock

Looks like a couple nice scrapers.
They must have really stood out without dark they are.

Yeah just a bit showing through the dirt. I went home rite after that stick decided to visit my big toe.

You know my day was the same just wasn't great that's a nice piece of driftwood I would of picked it up !!!

Yeah.. I make stuff with old cypress I find down here.

Im guessing its a piece of Oak. I visited that place where the pottery rim washed out from under the tree. I then went upstream quite a ways. I saw a sweet gravel bar and thought there should be some good ones on that thing. I was wrong nothing but rocks. I must of hit 8 gravel bars and only found 2 pieces of pottery all day. There is nobody that hunts that part of the creek so they should of been something. Maybe next yr. As soon as Deer season opens I wont be able to go back. It was my last creek hunt for the summer. The hunters will be going there soon they lease the property for hunting season.

Bring on the flooding rains lol

Bet a dollar it's cedar or a pine not. That stuff tumbles and make some neat things. I always pick it up. Good hunt Rock!

That wood is cool! It looks fossilized. Nice flint also!

Yeah I forgot about the Cedar trees in the area. Should I put something on it to make it shinny?

Just let it dry then sand it with progressively finer grit sandpaper.
At least that's what I do.
It looks natural but polished that way..not shiny.
This one's cypress.

As Gator said you can do several things. I have one I am going to brush up and clean and put a satin poly on and hang it outside. It looks like a horses head. I collect it in the spring for my taxidermist then if I have anything mounted it cost very little. Taxidermist pay a lot for good drift wood and there is a huge market for it.
Here is the piece I am talking about it is covered with rocks I picked up. It is actually pretty big and is blue cedar.

Nice looking stone with the wood.

Yeah.. there is lots of old cypress around where I've done alot of hunting.
The point is just a trinket from a pow wow that I hafted on a piece of bamboo for show.
I usually have a couple pieces of pottery laying on there with it.

In my area you can fill the back of your truck and a trailer up with drift wood from the Mississippi river. There is a lot that comes down from up north. One friend of mine makes chairs and tables out of drift wood.

I have seen some nice furniture made from it. I have a friend that might like to have it. Thanks, rack
