Waterproofing Garrett ProPinPointer?

I have just recently started using the ATPro and it is everything it has been advertised to be. I am looking to take advantage of the water searching part of it now and I am looking for a way to waterproof my pinpointer. Is it worthwhile to waterproof the one I have or should I look into purchasing something that is waterproof out of the box and keep mine for dry land? Any suggestions and solutions would be greatly appreciated.

I'm pretty rough on my GPP and have dunked it a few times. The battery compartment has always stayed dry with a nice O-ring and I use electric tape over the speaker sometimes because mine is very loud. I think the switch cover may be the weakest spot as you can just pop them off so I'm not sure what the inside of mine looks like.

you can always put it in a zip lock bag and put a few rubber bands around it if your worried.

Do you really need a water proof electronic pinpointer? I do all types of hunting and have never needed a pin-pointer for water. The scoop is quite large and you rarely miss your target. If you do, you take a second scoop. Some have water proofed the Pro-Pointer. It is a gooey process, and I would always be concerned about leakage. Another method would be to vacuum pack it 2-3 x giving a water proof skin. Another choice would be to purchase a waterproof one. The downside is that it will be picked up by your coil and can get annoying listening to the interference.

There are a few YouTube videos on waterproofing them. I agree with John however, and try to keep mine dry.

I am with John on this as a pinpointer isn't needed in the water. A scoop is much faster and easier whether it is hand held or long handled to save bending over. The best waterproofing for the pinpointer is to leave it at home for use on land.

A BeachMaster scoop like this sifts out the dry sand very fast and the only disadvantage to this in the water is the smaller size and the handle sinks if you drop it.

I am not planning to use the pinpointer along the beach or in water where a scoop is advisable. I am looking at creeks where the bottom is cluttered with rocks and other debris. The videos I have seen show a pinpointer being used underwater. Any suggestions for this type of environment? I do like the plastic dip idea though.
