With Dman still on crutches, Tenn. Josh reporting back to work tomorrow, and heavy rain predicted, Josh and I spent 6 hours hunting at a CSA Cavalry Camp today. We did some deep digging there. The first signal I dug was the dropped .69 cal. 3 ring "Big Boy". in the first pic.
Josh had a .58 cal. bullet in a dirt clod as shown in the second pic. When he pulled the .58 bullet out, note the lead oxide impression from the bullet left in the dirt. It dried quickly. I had never seen one do that before. Very cool. Josh remarked that was the first time that bullet had seen the light of day in nearly 150 years.
The 3rd pic shows one of the Enfields we dug. All 3 we dug had the "57" base marks today. I dug the heavy duty sword belt brass brad shown in the 4th pic. Josh dug 2 big brads later that still had the belt leather in them.
Our combined finds are shown in the last pic. Various size balls, different conical .36 cal. pistol bullets, .58 cal. 3 ringers, one .69 cal. 3 ringer, Gardiners, Enfields, and one Sharps comprised the bullet recoveries. I dug the iron that looks like an improvised hanger. Josh dug the two prong fork. All in all, no banner finds but a very enjoyable afternoon at a Confederate camp. We miss you Dman!! HH, Quindy.
