Relic Hunting
With Dman still on crutches, Tenn. Josh reporting back to work tomorrow, and heavy rain predicted, Josh and I spent 6 hours hunting at a CSA Cavalry Camp today. We did some deep digging there. The first signal I dug was the dropped .69 cal. 3 ring "Big Boy". in the first pic.
Josh had a .58 cal. bullet in a dirt clod as shown in the second pic. When he pulled the .58 bullet out, note the lead oxide impression from the bullet left in the dirt. It dried quickly. I had never seen one do that before. Very cool. Josh remarked that was the first time that bullet had seen the light of day in nearly 150 years.
The 3rd pic shows one of the Enfields we dug. All 3 we dug had the "57" base marks today. I dug the heavy duty sword belt brass brad shown in the 4th pic. Josh dug 2 big brads later that still had the belt leather in them.
Our combined finds are shown in the last pic. Various size balls, different conical .36 cal. pistol bullets, .58 cal. 3 ringers, one .69 cal. 3 ringer, Gardiners, Enfields, and one Sharps comprised the bullet recoveries. I dug the iron that looks like an improvised hanger. Josh dug the two prong fork. All in all, no banner finds but a very enjoyable afternoon at a Confederate camp. We miss you Dman!! HH, Quindy.

One Helluva Day Quindy :icon_thumright: Nice save's!!

Nice digs, love finding that Confederate lead. Looks like you guys are going deep for what's left in that camp.

Way to go Tenn Twins.
Q-man, you always dig a nice .69 or two. Been a long time since I've dug one of those. That bullet impression in the dirt is very cool. You guys did great today. Just bring Dman with you next time and set him up with a lawn chair, slippers, and a cocktail and let him film. LOL

Congrats Guys,
Dug
P.S. I know some poachers here in the Raleigh area that would like directions to your spot. LOL

Q, Looks like ya'll had a very productive day . . .I know it was a hard job, but somebuddy had to do it! LOL :laughing7:  Breezie

Now Quindy, I TOLD you that place is completly cleaned out!!! Quit going back up there. There is NOTHING left. I think you might disagree with all that! You guys did good and that place just keeps producing, amazing if you ask me. I'll give you a call in a few days, working on something up your way. Tennessee digger

Quindy, Keep it up and you're going to really pi*ss off some Chinamen....man that's a deep hole. Awesome recoveries. Hope it works out where we can hunt together this weekend.

Awsome finds! Man, I'd love to dig one or two of those .69s.

WOW man !!! youguys dun good there with an excellent bunch of recoveries and saves!!! :headbang: Great job fellas.

Dang buddy you have been killing them relics!!!! way to go!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

That's some nice relics, looks like loads of fun. HH

Thanks Joe, Steve, Mike, MM, Breezie, Donnie, Rob, Bill, Glenn, Roger, Hutch, BB, and MK.
Steve and Woodland Mike, as I told Sekypaleo we were digging signals with NO display reading at all but a good tone and sharp pinpoint and they would be relics most of the time. If you had a "12" or higher on the display and it was consistent in all 4 directions, we dug it too.

MM, you can keep your poachers out there in NC as we have several of those low lifes around here-LOL. HH, Q.

Breezie, I had to do my part to remove those toxic relics from the ground-LOL, Q.

Donnie, I'm still amazed with that site. Call me, Quindy.

Dman may get a green light to hunt a little tomorrow Rob and he and Josh and myself are all hoping that will occur. He's about to bust to dig relics, Quindy.

Bill, i hope it works out too, Quindy.

Glenn, You will dig some Big Boy .69s in NC with MM. They show up more often in the early war sites like out here as the .58 cal. weapons reploaced the bigger caliber as the war wore on. HH, Quindy.

Congrats you two an some nice finds. I really miss being out there but you two always give me hope. I know you all are missing a lot more than you find. LOL So next time I will be able to clean up the rest.
Dman

Awesome finds Quindy. I have never seen a bullet leave an oxide impression before. I have dug several holes where I saw a bullet or button impression in the dirt before I pinpointed them but nothing like your find. Thanks for the picture. Those .69's are huge. We don't dig too many of them here but get quite a few in VA. Congrats on some great finds.

that is some good work you two are doing.know you had a good time.i went alittle while yesterday and nothing.spent alot of time with family and had a blast but plan on hunting some this week.hope all three of you get to go hunting soon.

Those .69's are awesome pieces of lead. Get yourselves on an early war picket post and you'll dig nothing but Big Boys and .69 cal smoothbore.

OH cool! That impression from the bullet is neat! Ya'll did good! :icon_thumleft:

Nana
