Weapon detectors in banks

I went to a bank about two weeks ago in Grand Rapids that I had never been to before to look for halves, and they had some kind of metal detector/scanner that you had to walk through to get in the bank. Apparently after you walk through it, if you set it off someone has to buzz you into the bank? I have never seen this before in a bank. Is this something that is common in other areas?

Dok: not really sure how to read into your comments. Most notably the one where you replied to one of my recent posts that you "hope that I die in a fire". Oh! Well, maybe that was said jokingly, now I get it - ha ha
