I detected a field near the leg breaker field Saturday, as I was driving up, a large hawk was in the leg breaker perched on one of the furrows and allowed me to get within 30’ of it. I went to grab my camera and duh, forgot it! I see many hawks but they just do not let you get to close for a picture. My wife and kids went skiing so I went detecting as I do not ski and try to avoid snow at all cause!!! Here are the finds from unda the frozen white crap, the snow acts like an insulator to a point and the temps have been dropping down to 28F and the grass fields are great to dig on with only a few inches of snow in the lower areas. The lead, two lead seals and one has a date of 25 Sep, too bad there is not a year stamped on it. The other seal looks to have some old markings, not sure what they are or what they mean. A small very grey musket ball with no white patina at all and a weight or maybe a child’s whizzer toy. The whizzer toy would have had a string ran through it, wind the disc and pull the string ends and watch it spin. I have found a few of these and oddly, the holes are not straight through holes, they are overlapped and the holes are offset on each side, that may have made a whiz sound. Guess I will have to try it but first I need to get goggles, a mouth piece and a nose guard in case the string breaks, LOL.
A few relics. A pipe snuffer, note the holes around the inside edge. Some kind of copper tag that I think may have prevailed the lead bale seals for a time and a small skeleton key.
More relics. An angel looking piece broken off at the left, a round hollow button with some gold gilt and maybe the butt of a knife that has some fancy inscription engaved.
A bicycle bell and 3 coins, 1901, 1920 and 1940ish zincer.
Obverse of an 1800 copper, I could read the coin and see the date before I cleaned it up, Argh!
Reverse of the copper.
Obverse of a nice little silver coin 14 MM in diameter from Wurtemberg, Detecting is forbidden there by the way.
And the reverse of the silver, probably just a .333 silver content. HH, Mike
