Weekend with my father was a big "Bust"!! Bust Half that is!
I've been waiting to get back to my dads house to dig some dirt with my father. Its been a few months since we have had the opportunity to get out. Drove down on Friday and had a great spaghetti dinner and talked about the next day(Saturday). Woke up early and off we went to a Park that has given up over 40 Seated coins the last few years with high hopes. Not a single old coin found this day, not even a wheat. On the way home we hit a few schools and collected some clad and planned our next day. Headed to Bloomington for some clad hunting on Sunday and clad was collected along with a silver ring(I didn't post). Still just getting out with dad was special and to be honest, just something I've missed the last couple years. He is a beast with that Minelab and he has a Whites Classic that he uses for clad. But Saturday/Sunday the Detecting Gods were looking elsewhere. Went to my older sisters house Sunday night and she had an old house to hunt and already said her Minelab was ready to go. Monday morning we headed out and when I saw the house I thought it had promise. It sat close to where an old Trading Post used to be. We started finding clad right off, lots of clad, but I finally pulled a rough looking 1942 Merc and knew at least silver was present. Twenty minutes later had a hit, not deep at all in a gully at the edge of her property line. Thinking it was a clad quarter I took my digger and was poking until I hit the "quarter". I dug a small plug to pull this "quarter" out and saw something that I didn't think I'd ever find. I stand there looking at this 1830 Bust Half Dollar. It has bad corrosion on the back and a hole in it, but she is a beauty to me!!! My dad and sister thought I was crazy doing a double fisted pump while doing the chicken dance. I've found a couple Bust Dimes, but this had my heart beating I have to admit.
My totals for the weekend are:
1 Kennedy Half
1 Bust Half
49 clad quarters
62 clad dimes
1 Merc
21 clad nickels
1 Buffalo Nickel
172 memorial cents
1 Wheat cent
1 Indian Cent
1 Canadian Cent
2 foreign coins
313 coins with a total of $22.40
