Weight issues

In trying to eat healthy I made some low cal bran muffins. They tasted like dirt. So, I tried some whole wheat muffins and they tasted like dirt too. Why does everything healthy taste like dirt? Oh, I have been eating lots of fresh ripe tomatoes. We are getting them right off the vine this time of year and they are really good, ditto cucumbers. I tried some eggplant and it tasted like dirt. How do I know what dirt tastes like? I was stationed in the desert in Libya in the service and when the wind blew we ate a lot of dirt! Sometimes I think that after 65 time is short and you might as well indulge yourself. Who knows? Monty

I haven't done much studying of diet or exercise, but FWIW: I am 5'7" & weigh about 140. I was as low as about 130, but heat & humidity & rain have kept me from detecting lately.

At one point I weighed 170, after coming back from vacation with too many big meals at restaurants. But I did weigh about 160 eating at home.

What changed: I quit drinking regular & diet soda pop. I quit drinking OJ but maybe not a factor. I quit all dairy products except for skim milk on cereal. No ice cream, regular milk, cheese only rarely, no butter or margarine.

What I do have: I eat a breakfast of raisun bran & high fiber toast with jam. I eat breakfast late, so in place of lunch I just have 2 or 3 beers, a few pretzels, a few peanuts, a couple pieces of D___ dark chocolate. Then for dinner often I have a B______t Turkey Meal ($1 to $1.49) & 250 calories or the B_____t Pot Roast $1.50 to $1.79 & 170 calories. Near bedtime have raisun bran, a few peanuts, a few pretzels & a piece of D___ dark chocolate.

My mom makes a big meal few times a week: pork chop with potato & gravy, veggie, apple sauce. Or beef of some sort w/gravy & potato & veggie. Or noodles, broccoli & chicken. Or turkey breast, potato & veggie.

Doesn't that sound like a crazy diet to weigh 140lbs? And with heat, humidity & rain meaning no detecting, about 5 minutes a day of indoor exercise. How is this possible? I have normal blood sugar levels & normal blood pressure & I'm nearly 59.

I do have high anxiety so maybe I worry away calories? Best wishes, George (MN)
