Weird worm/slug thing, what is it??

A friend of mine said her kids brought this strange thing into the house and we've never seen one before. Can anyone tell us what it is?

Looks like a Tiger Swallowtail caterpillar, to me. I used to collect butterflies when I was a kid:

Eats rabbits, small children, pets, etc...

Cool Avatar Spitfire Reddie..........EWWW I hate bugs...larva.....When I substituted at an elementary school... the kids ordered larva and raised it all winter during school....the spring time the things "butterflies would hatch and we wold take them outside in the courtyard and release them....Educational thing the kids each would document the stages of a "butterfly"....Pretty cool.
