Well...I can Now Say: "I've Been to Wheat Penny City"!

I'm exhausted. I hunted from sunrise to sunset in a city park. I started in the baseball / soccer field and pulled out 12 wheat pennies, a 44-S merc dime, and a 43-S silver war nickel. The coins in this area were extremely deep, most barely audible at the 8 to 9 inch range. My 8 inch coil was straining to get these. I then moved to the other side of the park on a slope area and was digging wheat penny after wheat penny, one hole had 3 wheat pennies in the same hole. Another hole had 4! Virtually all the wheaties were exactly 6 inches deep. After digging about 15 wheaties I finally hit my first silver, it was a 45-S war nickel that was hit by a lawnmower. I kept digging wheaties, another 12 with no other silver coins!? By the time it was getting dark about 5:30pm I had 27 wheaties ! 27 wheaties from the slope area and another 12 from the soccer field, 39 total! A sterling silver Jesus medal would top off the day.

Very nice collection of coins and goodies! :occasion14:

great job hunting Wheaties, and silver. way to go

Congrats on digging those keepers and all that clad. :occasion14: I so envious of the fact you were able to swing the coil all day. In the deep freeze here. Thanks for sharing.

Looks like a very nice day.

Well done. Lawnmowered silver coin, toy soldier and Jesus silver... Nice.

Great finds, and looks like a lot of hard work put into it!

A picture of the opposite side of the Luxembourg coin would satisfy curiosity :)

Cool Hand Fluke, Great hunt, congratulations! Your Barclay soldier is a #952 in their catalog, "Soldier Dispatcher With Dog," circa 1935-1942, and would have had a tin helmet on top of his head held in place with a small internal clip. A beautiful, rare, and expensive one for collectors when in excellent condition. Here is what it looked like at one time.

PS: I am basing my theory on the two photos showing the RIGHT arm pointing outward, not the one with the LEFT arm outward, (did you invert this photo, by chance?)

Happy Hunting, Sub 8-)

I did invert the photo while doing my editing. Thanks for the info! I sure wish I cound find one of these Barclay soldiers that was completly intact. I'v dug about 10 of these guys and all of them are broken...:(

Wow! I had no idea that this coin was from Luxembourg! I've dug hundreds of foreign coins, but never one from there! A little research shows what I found about the coin and the country is below....

The county in Calif. I live in is actually twice as large as Luxembourg!
