wells fargo threw me the F bomb...

started there 3 weeks ago, i asked if i had an account can you order me halves, signed up and ordered
2 weeks ago i went and got my 4 boxes, were pretty good, guy said there is a fee if i bring them back...
1 week ago i got 4 boxes with 2x 40% total... weak...
this week i go to get them, exchange cash and boxes are out on desk. teller goes let me check if there is a fee... 30 bucks they wanted for the 4 boxes, out of principle i said no thank you and closed up my bank account...

I would have done the same thing. I closed an account when they told me there would be a .15 fee on each roll. I laughed and closed the account on the spot.

at wells about six weeks ago i was told that the next box would have a .15/roll fee ($7.50/box). i said ok because i didn't want to shut the door at this bank and all of its branches. when i went to pick it up the following week i got it for face...from the same person that said there would be a fee and i haven't paid any fees since.

i think a good strategy would be to order and then let them hold it if they try to charge extra. you're under no obligation to buy it. unless someone comes in willing to pay the fee they'll eventually offer it to you just to get rid of it. if their penny boxes costed 32.50 they'd never move any of them. the key is to get the box(es) into the branch, then force their hand.

was hoping they would offer the 4 boxes when i closed my account, as it had exactly 2k... but they didn't, eventually i will go into another wells fargo and see if they will charge... i guess they can pay a fee to send it back lol...

now i need to find another bank...

I use Credit Unions to pickup, as they are much more friendly. Because they are not-for-profit they tend to be fee-free. I use commercial banks (specifically Wells Fargo, but I assume BoA and Chase would be the same) as dump banks...cause they are for-profit, and I hate large for-profit corperations that nickel-dime on fees.

I haven't gotten it yet. The tellers at my Wells did jokingly say that it's gonna start to cost - but the head teller shouted out coffee. Told her I'd bring her a 'Box of Joe' from Dunkin Donuts this weekend.

idk if dealing cash for coins... they should let it slide... what happened to the whole banks pay one fee to get coins not a per roll? at wells fargo the worker said they pay per roll and they have to pass it on to me...

I just think that it's really up to the branch. I've had a branch that talks about Fees before but waved it for me later. It really comes down to the personal relationship they have with you. Most likely, they pay a flat rate for coins because otherwise they would be charge people who want rolls of quarters for their laundry. If they did that, no one would go to them. I bring in cookies, muffins from Costco, and a bottle of wine for the person who orders on occasion and they love that so they can wave the fees.
