they very well could. it gets into the bankers hands before yours. Keep on searching, once the skunk streak gets to 20 I would try a different bank.

I lost count of how many skunk boxes I went through before I got my first silver (though I had gotten some from loose and customer-wrapped rolls). It was certainly a lot more than five. Only a minority of half boxes have silver for most of us these days.

I can guarantee that wells fargo, or "brinks" doesnt search for and cull silver in my area....

I did hear last week though, from a guy who works at brinks as a matter of fact... that they are on to all the coin roll silver searchers, and so to try to discourage them, they take all the dumps and just throw them in the front of the hopper so those are the ones getting re wrapped sent back out to the banks and searched and so on...

I agree

I have tried BofA with halves, they ordered me 1 half dollar box(brinks halves), and they told me they would order as many as I want for a fee. No silver in that box, but did get 5 proofs where I rarely get proofs in my boxes from WF

I see where you are going with it...but how do they determine which ones are dumps as opposed to not dumps?

Well, thats just it, they dont necessarily go out of their way to make sure there isnt any silver. I think i have about a 1 silver average with my brinks boxes around here. Im just wondering what it would be like if one could get past all that dumpy garb and see what is behind it in the hopper. It seems like the faster I order more boxes, the more new CRH'ers are dumping all their dumps with brinks.

Thanks yeah i thinking of trying BOA,anyone had any luck there? ???

I went on a 16 box skunk streak from BoA...before I switched banks.

Never found a single silver piece from BoA.

Wells Fargo never touch the coins. They buy from an armoured car service. Boxes come in and go out but the only time wells fargo touches them is if they break a box. If you use Wells to dump at, the bags are filled and picked up by the armoured car service. JP

One thing I can't stress enough, is BUY SEALED BOXES. The bank can't go through them without breaking the seal. I do this with brinks dimes, I never buy from the teller tray, I always want a sealed box. They could very well cherry pick the 1-2 rolls that have silver, and replace them with full clad rolls. But not if the box is sealed. So if you order a box, and the seal is broken, don't buy it. If the seals are consistently broken, then you need to order from a different branch, as they are using your money to search halves before dumping the halves off to you when you pick them up.

There is not set rule on which bank to use. As you have seen mentioned above, you need to always try and purchase sealed boxes that have not been tampered with. In my experience, these boxes have always averaged out better. As I said, there is no such thing as one or two banks that just produce silver. This hobby is about trial and error, and randomness. You never know which bank is going to have silver at which time, and to ask such a question, is to assume that a banks like that exists, and it doesnt. If we did happen to know a bank that was producing silver, we would probably, no offense, not be sharing it with you, newbie or not. A lot of the members on this forum have put in some hard work to create their systems of picking up and dumping, and to ask for locations is simply out of the question. Once you get deep into the hobby, you will look back on this question and not believe you asked it.

HH and enjoy the hunt,

i found silver from wellsfargo but they charge fees... so i quit

I move around and travel a lot for my job so I have seen several different chains of banks all over the place. Only constant theme I have seen is random! Some banks are good in one area and bad in another....... That's why I check them all.

No secrets that I have seen. Just stick with it and you will eventually score something.

Not quite true.

The banks contract with the armored services to process coins, the banks (or rather the depositers , i.e. you and & I own the money). If Wells uses Brinks they keep their coin in a cash vault at Brinks that is not co-mingled with other banks that may use the same cash vault at Brinks.

In other words each bank has their own cash vault at a central processing facility whether its brinks or whoever...(I talked to the Operations Manager for the largest Brinks facility in Los Angeles about this).

They do not cull silver and neither do the banks out here because it is against the law for them to do so since they are a "processor" and not the owner of the money.

It may be different in small towns, but as far as Los Angeles thats how it works and probably the same for most major metro areas.

I remember somebody, (possibly you) saying this when I first started reading this forum daily. I do not know specifics, but I know that here where I am, (in utah) brinks just has one hopper and whatever banks use brinks will get the coins out of that same hopper. Im not saying that what you say isnt correct, im just saying I have been told that there is one hopper at brinks for all the banks here.

More than likely brinks services all the banks but unless they are actually buying them and taking "possession" vs. "processing" them they should have seperate cages at the cash vault, otherwise imagine the accounting nightmare, that was the words from the ops manager.

But like I said also in smaller areas they have a different policy.

Put in a call to your local brinks office, it took them a few days to get back to me, but it would be interesting to hear how they do it in your area.
