We had about an inch and a half of rain last evening, some of it pretty hard accompanied by strong winds. Not good for the limbs on my Japanese walnut and red plum trees, by just what the doctor ordered for artifact anticipation anxiety disorder (AAAD). I went out early this AM, after checking in on TNet, with images of Yakker's recent Jacks Reef find fresh in my mind. It was pleasantly ironic that I would pick up only my second Jacks Reef ever, fifteen minutes into the days walk. It is a cute little guy #55, made of a waxy grade of jasper, and reworked down to just a sharp little nub. I am tickled with the jasper scraper #58 as well. I believe it was probably hafted at the little notches, and the heavily reworked scraping edge has been worn down to a nice polish, probably more so than any other scraper I have. I believe #73 is one of the French gun flints. #71 was probably the biggest surprise, being just under 5" long, and appearing to be a crudely chipped, and notched hoe, or chopper. I rarely find any chipped artifacts around here over 2 1/2" long due to the only local lithic source being creek cobbles of baseball size and less. HH
