Spent last night in Green River Utah and took some morning pictures today and then drove in to the high plateau of Sothern Utah. The shot looking down the Interstate 70 heading west bound are the bluffs called the Capital Reef. From there you enter and climb in elevation in to the lands of light and shadows. It a big change in the landscape from Green River back to Colorado.

Nice photographs! Thanks for sharing...

Tamrock, the images you are taking with that Kodak P&S are
outstanding, to say the least. Color, composition...WOW!!!

IMHO, your eye for composition is superb, and it's time to put that Kodak up
and get yourself a DSLR. It will make those same shots look even better, and
then those beautiful sunsets will really have some "pop" to them. A couple of
the above, had they been shot in RAW with a crop-framed DSLR and processed
correctly, would most definitely be desirable as framed prints.

I know Dizzy, I do need to get a good outfit. Its just this Kodak Z650 is just ready to go at a short moment. I've taken zillions of photos with it and it just feels like my Quick Draw McGraw. Every time I look at a 8-9 hundred dollar camera, I say to my self I'm going to tell that store clerk I'm buying this and then a voice comes over me and ask, do you really need this?... I got my youngest daughter a nice DSLR, because she loves to take pictures. I guess Dads a cheapskate. I'm thinking soon I'll pick one up and get to know all the ins & outs. Hoping here soon I can stop all these Kodak moments. Thanks for all you said, that was nice.

Tamrock, an outfit like this:

Nikon D90 DSLR Bundle 000053001009 | eBay

...would be all you need. I've been using a D90 for many years, and it's one heckofa
bargain, still. You don't need 40 MP as it's the size and quality of the sensor that
makes the difference. Compared to your Kodak, the D90 will acquire massive amounts
of image data for each shot, and that extra data allows for larger, sharp prints and
the ability to process the image in a program such as Lightroom. THEN you're getting
image quality that is vastly superior to what your Kodak is capable of.

I took the liberty of re-processing one of your pics from above. I cropped it
to a landscape size, added some contrast and spruced the colors a bit. Not
much work, really, but here's what you can get from your pics:

Unfortunately, there wasn't enough digital data to sharpen it, but
once you make that change that won't be an issue.

With the kit on eBay, all you would need to do is add a decent lens or two
and you're set to go. The 18mm-105mm kit lens is a good one, and they
are well priced both new and used.

Overall, you should be able to get a good, used camera body with a minimal
shutter count and all the gear you need for <$500. I know it's a chunk of
change, but, you take a lot of gorgeous pics that could be much better when
taken with a decent DSLR. Once you take that step you'll never look back!

Diz, What's your thought on this Canon SX50?. I like and eye site as I can follow moving animals like a bald eagle that flew over me just today and the sun was on my back, plus I with my binoculars have spotted mountain cats high on bluffs and I'm sure thinking this zoom option would be nice to have. I like the appeal of it, simple and compact. Canon SX50 review: Could it be the best megazoom camera we?ve ever tested? I just use the Kodak program to work out some of the photo details. It's so basic. My daughters well advanced with Photoshop. Me though, the brain is slowing and change is harder to do, due to lack of interest in things new. Maybe I should I try Lumosity???

Looks like an awesome area to walk! (I think you know what I mean).

Wow awesome pics, I agree with Dizzy/Mike that you should get a DSLR! I wanted to recommend the Nikon D3200 as it has a 24megapixel sensor for amazing image quality, the only reason I switched away from that camera was to do video on a canon is easier and the newer camera's low light and iso performance is a little better due to processors but if you're mostly shooting landscapes and sunsets the night noise won't matter and it's a great camera for you. I used a D3200 for last few months since I started taking pics and it works great other than noisy night shots imo. I see them on craigslist new in box with kit lens for 350-400 often and you could get at reputable linked site for around 500 or Best buy will match them and have them on hand usually. Also any canon 50D would work well to start. The kit lens' can be a little restrictive so you may want to consider buying a longer zoom in a bundle or picking one up later on craigslist. Here's a link to D3200 Nikon D3200 DSLR Camera with AF-S DX NIKKOR 18-55mm Lens 25492 - B&H Photo I don't know much about the powershots other than in a glance it doesn't look like they can produce the image quality of a the regular dslr's although 1200mm sounds fun I'm skeptical as to how well it actually works:) Maybe Dizzy can chime in on those. Once again great pics!

Your nice photos do give me the thought I should be looking in to a better camera. I do get in to places that I should have one on hand. Maybe here next week I'll do some shopping, as I do have the money to spend on a better camera, as long as my daughters cars hold together, dang vehicles are busting down lately. Thanks for you advice and hope I to stop wasting good shots on a cheap camera here soon.
