DAY 1
I went to a fresh water swimming area and spent 3.5 hours with the ATPro. The water was way up and the park was empty. There was a lot of rain this spring and it was cold so fewer people in the parks, but you never can tell what has been lost. I found 4 coins with a face value of $0.17, some jewelry, 2 matching decorated fingernails, a thin nut, 5 sinkers, 4 tabs, a toy car, and some foil.
The ring is a PANDORA. I found it on line and it is 14k rose gold plated and retails for $125. Of course you can buy a used one online for about $35 so $5 at the yard sale is about right. But nothing great from this hunt.
DAY 2
We went camping with our daughter and her family. It was in a park with 2 large swimming areas with beaches. Metal detecting is allowed for campers but only until 9 am between Memorial Day and Labor Day. I got up early and went out Saturday and Sunday. My granddaughter joined me both days but she didn’t get up quite as early as the old man and joined me. She has detected with me on camping trips several times in the past. She is 19 now and her target recovery time is improving. I still do much better than she does but she only detects once or twice a year and I detect 4 times a week most weeks. My sessions are 5 to 8 hours long and she detects for 2 hours most times. She just needs more practice time to get better.
They are doing construction on parts of the park and parking is limited so the number of contributors is way down from past years. Also the weather has been cold and rainy so fewer swimmers. Not a lot of targets and fewer good ones. Again a lot of people go cashless these days so no change to loose and some people still are having economic issues so less good jewelry to loose as well.
Saturday I spent 3.5 hours and she spent 2, both of us swingin ATpros set on PRO ZERO with IRON AUDIO ON, DISCRIMINATION set on 30 and SENSITIVITY down 3. She worked parts of the beach and shallow water and I worked a little beach and deeper water out to the swim rope limit of the area. I found 5 coins with a face value of $0.53, a nice batch of jewelry, pellet gun pellets, selfie stick retainers from the kids fish net poles, sinkers, tabs, part of a hair clip, some miscellaneous metal, a toy car and a pile of small foil bits.
Only one of the earrings is good jewelry. It is 10k and has some discoloration. 10k is only 41.8% gold so it is not unusual for tarnish and discoloration to occur. It is marked 10k an N with an arrow through it and ID.
The ring I found is not a good one, but it is interesting. It has 3 octopus tentacles, definitely a cool looking ring.
I found a tiny bit of non ferrous metal that looks like meteorite. I’m sure it is not a piece of broken metal. I need to do some testing to see if it has a chance of actually being a meteorite. Most of them end up being meteor wrongs. It just doesn’t look right for the non meteorite stuff I usually find and it does feel heavier than I would expect for something this small. The only way to be sure is to have it tested. Non ferrous meteorites are very rare so the chances are not good, but you never know.
My granddaughter found a few things. Nothing great, but she had fun and did not get skunked so she is happy so I am happy.
DAY 3
On Sunday of the camping trip we again did 3.5 hours for me and 2 hours for her with the ATPros. The targets were fewer and a lot of dead space, but I did have a little luck. I found more jewelry (less than Saturday), part of a zipper, an old copper rivet, selfies stick retainers from the kids fish nets, a piece of a fish net pole, tabs, part of a ball whose halves are held together by magnets and another pile of foil.
I did get lucky and found a nice gold ring. It had a tiny blue diamond in it and an inscription. A lady came down while we were detecting and asked if we had found her husband’s wedding ring. The stainless jewelry sounds pretty good on the ATPro. The ring is well worn and you can see the stainless through the black that originally covered the outside. It has I LOVE YOU on the inside. Quite possibly another wedding ring. The pendant is different. It has an anatomical type heart on it. It is stainless steel as well.
The only good jewelry for me to keep is a silver earring backs marked 925. Normally in this park swimming areas I find several silver earrings and earring backs. Not this trip.
The half ball has 8 little magnets. The other half would have 8 as well and complete the ball. With a little research it appears that it is part of a reusable water balloon. Submerge it in water to fill it. Close the halves together underwater and throw it. I have found 2 others in the past but did not know exactly what they were until now.
My granddaughter found another toy car and a few other things along with the usual foil and tabs. She had fun and was really excited to return the ring. Her first experience with a find being returned.
Another short week. 2 golds, a silver and working with my granddaughter helped make it a good one. Bad weather and a busy schedule have made it tough to get out.
