Wet minelab explorer

Greetings, anyone with advice on saving a minelab explorer which got wet with sea water?

How wet did it get, did it go underwater or just get splashed?

If it went underwater you have major problem. Best advice I can give is send it in to Minelab. Salt is very corrosive, be prepared to spend some money. Do you have homeowners insurance on your possessions?

sea water aka salt water needs to be washed off.

if it was drenched,

I would remove the batteries buy several gallons of drinking water & several bags of
100% all natural Hardwood Lump Charcoal & flush the detector down,
inside & out.

then let it set for at least a week, maybe a month.
in an enclosed area on top of the ripped open bags of Charcoal

Once I was absolutely sure it was Dry completely,
I'd put batteries in & try it.

If it still doesn't work I'd send it in for repair

Of course if $$$ are no problem, Just send it in now with a note.

Please be advised, this is what I would do.
I'm not saying I know what I'm doing

Hopefully you immediately removed the battery.

You need to open up the control housing (WITHOUT BATTERY) and flush everything with large amounts of distilled water. Then let it dry for several days, or longer. If you can pack the control section in a large container with dry rice, that can help make sure it removes all the moisture.

Once it's completely dry, put it back together, put the battery back and cross your fingers while turning it on.

Option #3 go to the electronic store or on line and get a couple of cans of control cleaner. Open it up and spray everything. It will evacuate the moisture and clean the controls. Give it about an hour then try it. Frank

If there is still salt crystals on the PC board it will fry itself the first time it gets damp air on it.

salt is extremely corrosive ! you know this if you dug coins on the beach

The control cleaner comes in a spray can with a nozzle tube extension. It is like a chemical pressure wash. It will flush out the salt and evacuate the moisture. It will also clean any contacts. I have used it for years on electronic equipment. It will evaporate in about 20 min, depending on brand. Frank
