Understandably, there is probably no place to buy winter tires (snow/ice) down there...make for some bad accidents if people don't "slow down"...low tread tires and "vehicle speed" is usually the cause. Drive safe & slow Southern neighbors!

I was in McDonough Ga for training for my job not long ago. I complained about how hot it was, glad I'm not down there now lol

I'm north of Atlanta, usually a 45 minute drive or so. My little town was gridlocked every which way starting at 1:00 p.m. There was not a road or street that didn't have cars stuck in the ditches and unable to simply make it up a small hill.

Understandably most of these folks do not know how to drive in snow or on ice, when their car starts to slide the first thing they do is crank the wheel and slam on the brakes. Hello ditch! Luckily I grew up in Michigan and was able to creep around the accidents and stuck vehicles.

Now that's a 'Jackknife' you don't want in your pocket!

Atlanta! long time no see, but neat.
Even here in Michigan folks need a reminder during first slippery roads each year. With out practice in a slippery wide open safe area how does one learn what the particular vehicle being operated can do? I have driven a motor bike in the snow many years ago out of necessity. An old timer used to run plain Jane bias ply tires on his rear wheel car and hold up traffic but slowly cruised to work despite any weather,(he worked for weather service!) I imagine its just to short a learning period or a lack of one in areas not accustomed to wintry roads, time its figured out the conditions change. Though during this years go around, less crashes should occur each day,in theory.Thump!,oops, excuse me. As some one once put it," its a ballet, not a slam dance".

update, no mail service yesterday, and I guess no mail service today either.. what happened to the old saying neither rain or ice or sleet or snow shall keep us from our appointed rounds? If I get late fess on my bills I will scream!

Side note 800 to 900 children had to spend last night in school in my city of Marietta alone last night (that would of sucked) and looks like close to 20,000 or more children had to spend last light in their school in Atlanta and surrounding cities (they are being escorted by the national guard back to their homes today)

Here on the Great Lakes (northshore Lake Huron) they just shutdown all roads 'again' for The Bruce Peninsula...only police, snowplows w/salt and sand allowed on roads.

Yee-haw, the south's gonna slide again! I live in a high Alpine environment, and never have any trouble gettin around, but we got the equipment to maintain the roads. Y'all probably got an old Ford tractor with a box blade on it if that. Still, we only get snow and that's way more better than the ice storms I had to navigate back in Oklahoma. A few tips. Number one--stay home and keep off the road if possible. If you have to get out, keep a lot of distance between you and the vehicle ahead if you can and constantly be lookin for a way out if you need to avoid a collision. Watch that fool behind you in your rear view mirrors at all times. Keep your vehicle full of gas, and maybe throw in a couple of blankets, a pair of coveralls, some good hiking boots, a jug of water, a bag of kitty litter, material to build a fire, and some snacks. Nothin livens up bein stuck off in the borrow ditch like a big fire and smores. Remember you can drive 65 on a snow packed highway with no problem, but when it comes time to stop there may be some difficulties. Seriously, y'all take care, and I think it was a smart decision to keep the kids off the roads.

Glad I don't live in a city. But folks here don't know how to drive in that stuff either. RGINN, I learned how to drive in snow & ice in Steamboat Springs. Got plenty of both there.

Hey RGINN, most 'smart' drivers round here put about 300lbs (6 sandbags) filled w/pea sized rough gravel in the back (increased tire traction)...and if you can't "keep'er between the ditches" ;) use it to get back on the road...Too many cat owners round here need that kitty litter at home! heh heh....like 'snowball' here...rough'in out the winter!:laughing7:

Yea they don't have the salt storage setup we have further north. But Georgia has good weather most of the year. Been prospecting there and vacationed at Lake Lanier, wonder if that is still there. Heard the level was dropping. Hay, in a few days the whole mess will be a memory. Be carefull, Frank...
Rose on ice 700.webpYou have to take a little bad with the good, that's life!

Hay, I like this one!

N9, that made me LOL!!

thing is number9 is from Tennessee and I bet those are his relatives or friends.. silly rednecks LOL

Nice 3D rose Frankn!
TJE nice of you to leave some newspaper for kitty after take'n her kitty litter!

I'm surprised that well equipped states haven't sent their snow plows & etc down there, the electric and fire co. help each other out all the time, when bad weather hits.
Ice is the problem, you can drive thru snow ok with out too problems unless it gets deep. Blizzard of 1978, Rt128 up here was a parking lot of cars and trucks, so we feel your pain! I tell the kids when driving on snow or ice don't do any thing fast, or you'll be hugging something and it won't be me!

Sounds like the powers that be down there need an extreme emergency back up plan.
Hope it warms up quickly and melts all the bad stuff for ya!
