Silver from three different locations.

This past Friday and Saturday my wife and I were in Omaha for the AVCA volleyball tournament between Minnesota, Michigan, Kansas State, and Nebraska. With the games being played in the evening, that meant some spare time on Saturday morning for some hunting. We stayed in Council Bluffs Iowa, so I found an old park there to hunt. The only problem was that it had been renovated a few years ago, so I wasn't sure what had been done to the dirt. I tryed anyway. I managed to find the 1918D merc within about 20 minutes after starting. I should have stopped after finding it, because no more was found except for some clad. Oh well, I was still happy with the merc.

Tuesday I thought I would go back to the area that produced the Barber quarter and merc last week. I first tryed on the edge of the park hoping something might be there. Not!! So, I went back around the area that produced the Barber and merc, hoping maybe there's one more keeper there. After about 30 minutes I had a good signal. The tone was good, the numbers were good, and the depth was good. Anticipation was high. Although I have been disappointed a few times in the past, I was still excited. I dug the plug and and removed it. Checked the hole with the probe and had a good tone. After a few digs in the hole to loosen the dirt, I noticed a large silver disc in the dirt. I still wasn't thinking coin. When I picked the disc out of the hole I could not believe what I was seeing, an 1879 Morgan dollar. Wow, what a surprise. My first ever silver dollar.

Thursday I went to work thinking I might stop after I get off for some detecting, so I took the detector with me. When I left work it looked like it could rain anytime, but I decided to try a little hunting anyway. I swung for probably an hour and a half. Nothing! Finally the SE awoke me from my zombe like status. I had a good tone. I dug the hole and found the 1902 Barber dime. She's worn, but that's O.K. with me. By this time the thunder had begun and it was getting closer. I swung for a few more minutes and found the Indian not too far away. Now the rain was starting to fall, so I decided to call it a day.

Until next time, thanks for looking and happy hunting to all.

Great coins, that 1879 is a real beauty :headbang:

Way to go, is this the best hobby in the world or what?

WTG I thought Josh aka Dogcought cleaned out CB/ Omaha since he's from there lol. Well maybe next time we can do some hunting later since I live up north about 30 miles. HH

Congratulations Big E on finding three
sweet silvers! You are more than likely
still doing the "Happy Dance" over the
Morgan dollar. I would be for sure.
Gold Nuggets :hello:

Thanks Gold Nuggets. I for sure was doing the Happy Dance all the way back to the car. I'm sure everyone in the park thought I had lost it.

My first and only Morgan was also a surprise; you just don't expect that it'll really be a dollar! Beautiful finds!

Thanks halfdime. That's why it was such a surprise. A dollar is the last thing you expect to dig up. I couldn't believe the size of it in the hole, especially when you dig mostly pennies and dimes.

Thanks IAsoldier. I wasn't sure what I would find in CB. I figured it had been hit hard. Always feels good when you can find something in an area you know has been detected hard. I'll keep you in mind next time I'm out your way.
