Not sure if this is the right place for this question, but this is where I see all the gold ring posts, so here goes:

What are you going to do with all the gold? Is there a market for this "junk" gold? Can you take a handful of rings to a jeweler and have him melt them for a new ring?

I guess I am just thinking ahead, as I haven't found any gold yet, but I am curious.

Thanks for the info

Hey Vegas. My wife took some old gold to a custom jeweler in Augusta, Georgia when we lived there and had me a really nice ring made from it. He did as you are speaking of. The result was a really nice ring. This particular jeweler advertised that they made jewelry from old gold. They still make it the same way. You may have to check around your area to find someone. It will most likely be an independent jeweler and not one of your national or international chain stores.

Also check out this link for a great place to send your precious metals for some $$$$.

I think it is up to you what you do with any gold or silver that you find. I pulled a 14k Men's wedding band out of the ground with 5 diamonds and it fit my finger perfectly so I just wear it. I have found a few women's rings that just so happened to fit my wife so she wears them. I want to find some that don't fit so well so I can try to sell them on ebay or something. I would not take them to a pawn shop because you won't earn as much money. The only exception to finders keepers that I know of is when you find jewelry with a name on it. It is expected that you try to find the owner if that happens. Sometimes the owner will reward you with a little something. If not you get the satisfaction that you returned something that was lost. I hope this helps. Happy hunting.

Thanks for the replies.

Yea, I am hoping I find old, ugly, men's rings that don't fit me. Otherwise I am sure that if they fit the wife, it would be the last I got to hold it, lol ;D

I agree with trying to return those that have inscriptions. I think that putting an ad in the local lost and found classifieds satisfies the "reasonable effort".

Thanks for the link too!
