Sorry to have to say, that is not an American Military button... neither USA nor CSA.
To identify it, we need to see photos of its back -- unless the back is iron/steel. If so, it is a 20th-Century Nautical-motif "Fashion" button for fancy civilian coats & jackets. Here's a photo of a similar one, for sale on Ebay.
