Is it a carving or painting? It looks like a Native American motif. General location would help too.

Interesting because is the face of the rock, I would look around the area possibly in the 270 degrees and distance at least 200 feet. Good luck

Thanks will try looking around regarding those suggestions....
ya, lots of pictographs in lower valley of area, but this was in sub alpine area, south west British Columbia, just north of Hope

Like the rock has been rubbed very hard to wear away the dark colored rock to reveal the whiter granite...almost like a carving... Looks old

Maybe you can research to find out if the local native tribes used markers to establish the boundaries of their claimed territory or marks to show the way for traveling through really rough terrain.

Good thinking Bill,I sure wish the limb was'nt there, I've often wondered if they used s circle to represent a drill hole and something else to represent the distance.
