the material does look alike, and no smoothness to it. the holes on mine are a bit bigger, but its a pipe! thanks jazdo!

The other half of a pipe like this was a round pebble. In the pipe, it let the smoke around it, but kept the stuff being smoked from getting sucked into your mouth.
