Depends on your definition. Are you talking about single freq VLF? If you are talking about ANY VLF, then my CTX is the deepest I have used. I have dug measured 12" deep quarters from farm fields with it. I have heard it gets deeper on sand beaches, but I haven't done any measurements while beach hunting. It also gives solid hits on dimes at 7 - 8 inches in the dirt when using the factory 6" coil which is far deeper than any other 6" coil I have used on any other detector.

I've pulled a 12" penny on more than one occasion, and also a 9" half-dime.

(Using a 10x12 butterfly on my Fisher F70)

This detector is deep, but chatty.

This subject/thread comes up often. Maybe not limited to vlf discussions, but ... "what is deepest" type question. Naturally, there are some pulse machines (especially nugget machines) which can get a coin to nearly 2 ft. deep. But they are USELESS for any places someone would be coin hunting. Because they blare off on every single staple, pushpin, flex, pinhead, etc.....

And the same would be true of VLF: Ie.: "at what cost?". Some go deeper, but lack good TID. Some go deeper, but aren't suitable for junky environs (target separation). Some go deeper, but only in moderate soils (and hit a brick wall at 6" if there is even moderate minerals). So there's a lot more to the question that goes into the real-world answer

As victhedog hinted at.....target size is a big factor in detection depth. My TM808 will go down 20+ feet on a car sized object. For a dime or small ring, the best I've personally used is my Excalibur in pin point mode.

My LRP. I found a beautiful flattened Old Milwaukee can at 14". Used my Samson shovel that's marked. Yep, 14". I ain't lying.

My old Tesoro Lobo, now long since gone with that big loop got a small cannon ball almost 30 inches down. Almost killed me digging it out as was much deeper than my arm could reach.

I think so much depends on soil conditions etc. Of course some of your higher end vlf machines should and will go deeper but I have plucked quarters with both my V3i and my At Pro at 10", the soil was a sandy loam so it was pretty loose but it is rare however at 6" they both will blow your ears off on a quarter

I am very happy with the depth I get when using the F75LTD with the 12" x 15" SEF coil installed.

The MXT will get dimes and pennies all day long at 10" and have had some at a full 12", this from a pounded park most people won't detect anymore. HH

In my inert soil in South FL with a test garden of coins ranging from 8" to 12" 4 machines outperform the rest. Fors Core deepest VLF i own with good id at 12" nickel in my soil with gain at 98, mask 10 to 20, 2 tone.Beach Hunter ID all metal max sens with discrim lights hits the 12" nickel all day with no lights blinking though. Gamma 6000 latest version sens at 94with 11" DD. Then the CZ-20 ..

My deepest keeper dig was a US bridle rosette at 12" with the F75SE with the stock coil. But my observation leads me to believe my E-TRAC and Tejon are just as deep.

White's V3i a little bit over 8 inches in moderate to highly mineralized soil..have found dimes and pennies deeper, depends on the soil

Im in a specialized industry and I have use a machine Called an EM-61 which used with all components (TX27 or EM16R), I have seen a 55gal barrel and about 10ft. I have found WWII era bombs at about 8ft. I and routinely find .50cal bullets at 3ft. just all depends on what Millivolts you are setting your clearance threshold at.

If I need to find something Larger, I hook up the TM808,

Ive routinely found LARGER items( Cars, buses,sheet steel, bombs) at 18+ feet.

I been having pretty good finds, quarters, dimes, nickels and pennies (although 1940's on up) with my old Whites DFX.
Several finds have been 10 plus inches.
