i found this by a 1800's school and i dont know what the buton went to ? help?

I've dug a couple like that and most likely its a modern style blazer button made to look kinda old. I'm not an expert but IMHO that's what most people will tell you. Still a cool find and will look good in a collection. HH, Griff

i had thought that too but it was deep and the back looks its been there for a while

whats the lettering along the rim say ?--looks sorta like a "state seal" type button --- but with the british crown thinking more canadain or british most likely --mich is close to canada after all.
