Could it be from a rifle sling? We need more pics from different angles including one from the bottom.

What does it say on the top of it ..45 gw something it looks like? :dontknow:

Doesn't seem to have any lettering or writing on it at all. Maybe a part to a horses saddle?

Ah good ID Taz. I knew it looked very familiar but I couldnt place it. They have been posted here before. I recognized the smashed rivet like bottom and yes it swivels (turns). I believe one is solved. Probably from a dog chain.

Ill try and look for some better pics but something like this. It may even be 2 pieces broken off and rusted together.

Yes still burning, still visible smoke coming out of the ground in some places. I go there 1-2 times a year and every time the landscape looks a little different near the cemetery where all the smoke is coming up.

Possibly, but aren't those pretty small? if it is a swivel, the hook part i'd imagine would be 1-2 (or more) inches tall judging proportion of this part

"Statewide attention to the fire began to increase, culminating in 1981 when 12-year-old resident Todd Domboski fell into a subsidence four feet wide by 150 feet (46 m) deep that suddenly opened beneath his feet in a backyard."

Wow. Learned something new. I knew there were coal seam fires, we have a couple here in Colorado that flare up occasionally, but one that wipes out a whole city? Amazing. I assume this is high on a hill somewhere so that when the local river floods, it will never reach an opening an flood the mine. I am just agog with amazement!

It started in 62 I think but took 20 years to reach the city. I wonder if it will reach another city.
