Cool looking find. It would seem to possibly be Navy related with the anchor on the face along with the date. Was there anything on the reverse side? Congrat's on a nice find. Maybe someone here could chime in and be of more help.

there's nothing on the back , I've been metal detecting about five years I only found about three of these items , but I don't think that number is a date.

What is a tool tag is it civil when was these tag used

they are used in any shop or navy?, that has a tool room,each tool has a tag and when you check it out they put the tag on a hook with your name.

Because there is No other info on it, I'd say Navy Tool Check




I do agree not a date. the Continental Navy only goes back to 1775.
not sure when the anchor symbol was attached to the Navy, But wouldn't Surprise me if Not till re-establishment in the 1790's
