I found this on an old ranch in North Texas. It is heavy iron. What is it?!?
I actually found 2 of them, about 2-3 feet apart.

Interesting find! Please take a photo of the other side and place a quarter next to the relic for size comparison. :icon_thumleft:

The same as the front, with less deep indentation.

It looks like the tips of an 1800’s wrought iron fence.

I thought the same thing Rocklegand! But I looked at some pictures and those had square openings on the bottom to fit on the fencing. These things just have some sort of indentation on both sides, like it was clamped to something.

squared socket bit is a hint, too.

Seems ornamental, and that would not be a rarity on a working ranch "Big House" fence. I'm originally from Farmers Branch, and ran around from Gunter to Honey Grove...if you don't mind, what town was near where you found it?

Might be the end of a large hinge for a barn door.

Yes . The square hole means it received a carriage bolt.

Maybe an excavator tooth peg? Can't find any antique examples b/c the googles are flooded with modern ones (socket style)

Edit: I think its an auger (post hole digger) tooth, I knew I'd seen something similar somewhere.
