I dug this today at an 1875 community school. I have no idea what it is. The small piece of copper wire is looped through the front then twisted and folded over in the back over the small copper disc. It is heavily corroded and coming apart on the front side but on the reverse I can make out Boston USA and possibly Tower Co. I'm not sure about Tower though.
Anyone know what it is?
Thanks, Mark

it's a coverall/overall button I believe.

Somewhere around here, I have some information, but can't lay my hands on it right now. I think the letter dates them to 1910. I will continue to look for it an post it if I find it.

Maybe a rain slicker button. Here's a rain slicker circa 1890 made by the A J Tower Co. of Boston.

I see a little info on the A J Tower Co being in business into the early 1900's. Latest I find is 1918.

A. J. Towers is who I have information on, along with a photo of the company and one of their buttons I dug a long time ago. For the life of me, I can't find it. But, that is who I was thinking as well. Thanks Matt!

I just dug two of these buttons near Albany in Western Australia, almost everything i am finding at this site is 1890's so this description matches great.

A well traveled slicker and far from home !:blackbeard:

Great background info, I just knew I could get my answer here, as I dug one up today while MD in Floral City, Fla.
The church dates back quite early in the 1900's ..
Thanks~!!
