WHAT KIND OF BUCKLE?

We went metal detecting today on civil war land and found this buckle,I belive it is brass, it has a green patina to it.But what did it go to? Then we found a bullet and a very strange rock.

"D" buckle, just frame, tongue usually rusts away. Most likely horse tack.

The rock is of a material that is softer (easier to erode) than the center material, Just a rock..
