I went out on a great dig this last weekend and found what appears to be an 1822 reale. There seems to be some various opinions as to what type of reale as far as what country it is from and what mint. Some folks think this is a Mexican reale while some say Spanish reale. Anyone out there able to shed some light on the origin and possibly share a link to their source? I appreciate any help I can get.

The obverse says FERDIN. VII DEI GRATIA
The reverse says HISPANIA RUM. REX with a R over a M on the left side of the coin and a 2 over a JB on the right side of the coin.

search 1822 real ferdin VII & look for a match

Your coin was minted in Madrid.
The mintmark appears like this:

Other ways to tell that it is not a coin of Mexico include:
1. For all intent, Fernando ceased to rule in Mexico in 1821 though there was Royalist 2R minted in 1822 in Guadalajara with a different mint mark.
2. A Mexican coin of this variety had a reverse legend of IND REX; absent from this coin.
Don....

Thanks gents! I greatly appreciate the feedback.
