I was wondering what is the biggest mistake everyone has made in this hobby since I have made a few and hopefully can remember them so I don't make them again. :tard:

One of my mistakes was to close the trunk of the car on the cable of the hipmounted detector. Another was showing a park visitor a nice ring I had found when asked if I ever find anything. They tried to claim it by contacting park rangers by saying I wouldn't give their ring back to them. They didn't get it..... :D

my biggest mistake (and i catch myself doing it all of the time) is moving too fast. i have to concentrate on slowing down and overlapping swings or else i seem to forget pretty quickly. i also lose confidence in a site too quickly sometimes. just because i haven't found something in the first hour doesn't mean its not there!

Biggest mistake was Propping my Detector
on the back of my Jeep.
and later Backing over it
Instaed of putting it in my trunk.
then driving a mile or so before realizing
I never put it in.

2nd. Biggest Mistake seeing a cop watching me Detecting
from his car, but Never approaching me.
I finally decided to go over & say Hi
& when I got there he told me his dad shouldn't have given me Permission.

3rd Biggest Mistake Taking Hunting buddies with,
Because that means Less Goodies for me.

Just Kidding on that last one Guys :D
it is always more intresting with Company.
Just leave the best finds in the Ground for me :wink: :P

In a frenzy after making a good find, I hunted on for about a half hour only to discover my machine was turned off! :o

Mine too! I can have a detailed map of a Union camp and for some reason I want to cover as much ground as I can in a short amount of time. I know my problem, but just can't seem to make myself slow down.

Being to honest with the land owners about my finds,who then get greedy and kick you off their property!

Let's see:

Hunting for 15 minutes with the Sunray probe not quite on the coil or the probe. (makes an occasional noise but you aren't going to find anything)

Leaving a Bullseye II pinpointer at a hunting site and having to drive back to get it.

Wearing Steel Toed boots when hunting in the woods and the first 3 or 4 times I hunted. Thought my machine was broken because I was getting signals almost every time I swung. :tard:

There are more but that should do for now.

That's me too...I need to slow down and watch my swing. I find walking backwards helps me in doing so. And also with large areas, you want to cover it all, but learning to be patient is another problem with me!

LOL, I did that, but not once, several times! DUH ME!! LOL

Hopefully at this next hunt, I will slow down and take my time doing one area...even though 900 + acres is not really alot to cover ...LOL ;D ;D ;D

Digging into a ground hornets nest. :-\

I may have contributed more finds for the next detectorist than I ever found. I seriously lose stuff all the time from diggers to even pinpointers. I've done the Jeff thing of running over my detector and even tried to stand up to a crack junkie for my $130 BH. Got home and told the wife about the encounter, she marched me to the back of the house and pointed to my 4 little uns and said never again for a lousy $130 detector or even if it is a million dollar tector. :tongue3: Mind you I'm an Investigator and an experienced Police officer, I'm always armed. But when a crack crazy in Washinton D.C. has the drop on you, you pray he doesn't see your badge or gun and just let him go. Not my area of expertise, better to let the regular patrol boys handle that. Other then that I alway forget and wear white socks which drives the wife crazy trying to clean em. She buys me special grey ones she says I can get dirty all I want. :D Guess sock color does matter ! :D ;D

Hey I'm glad I'm not the only one that walks backwards sometimes to slow down!!! :thumbsup:

Trying to ground balance with my Sunray in the probe position. Not to bad only took me about 5 minutes to figure out what was wrong.

Putting a toy car full of ants in my pocket!!!!!

ROTFL.

Umm... The mistake I made was checking handfuls of dirt for a target with a jacket on with metal buttons. Took about 2 min to notice...

Keep @ it and HH!!

forgot the T-Paper and had to use my brand new underwear. :o sorry TMI

Regrets, Ive had a few;
But then again, too few to mention.
I did what I had to do
And saw it through without exemption.

I planned each charted course;
Each careful step along the byway,
But more, much more than this,
I did it my way.

Yes, there were times, Im sure you knew
When I bit off more than I could chew.
But through it all, when there was doubt,
I ate it up and spit it out.
I faced it all and I stood tall;
And did it my way.

all have a good un.........
