I think diggummup got it right :icon_thumleft:. With the square part at the top for the strap and the missing part mirrored by the part that remains, plus the flat part for the shoe/boot to rest on, it looks like a stirrup.

Now, if only it could talk. When was it born? Who made it? Who used it? Who broke and lost it?

Questions that will remain a mystery... it's the newest addition to my personal museum.
