I have found these humongous stoneware, pieces in two creeks that are nearly 20 miles from each other. I finally took one after a unsuccessful day. It is salt glazed, would have had a diameter of around 3 ft., and weighs about 100 lbs. Anyone know what this is ?

Early years they made sun baked crocks for transporting water. They would dip out of the spring and pour into these crocks which was wagon mounted. Other folks made wood slat tanks for that purpose also.

First thing that came to mind was one of those things you have on your patio to build a fire in.Chiminea?I don,t know if that,s the correct spelling but you Texans should know what I,m talking about.Just a guess, that,s all.

Maybe part of a sauerkraut crock. Some of them are quite large - 25 or 30 gallon...
