What to do with a VERY expensive Gold/Diamond Ring....

Hello All!

Been a very long time since I posted here on Tnet (Shame on me) I do however float through and visit

Through a sad event in our family (the passing of my Aunt) we have come into possession of several expensive items.
One of these is a Gold and Diamond ring that my Aunt had specially made...
In 2004 (I think) it was appraised for $24,000+...

When she died she left all her worldly belongings to her nieces and nephews (5 kids in all, me being one of them)
My question is: What in the world can/am I to do with a $25k ring!?

We are having it re-appraised.. but then what do we do with it afterwards? :S

Any ideas would be GREATLY appreciated!

OH and I'll post some pictures once I get some It's a MAGNIFICENT ring.

Don't feel bad about posting, I am guilty as charged too. As for the jewelry, my wife is collecting any gold or silver unwanted rings you have laying around....lol

Unless it has some significant emotional value to any one of you, sell it, "Take the money and run". It ain't nothing but crystalized carbon and a base metal.

It may appraise for $25K but you won't get anything near that figure for it. Your aunt may have had it "specially" made but no one else is your aunt. To anyone else it's just a pricey ring. Get what you can for it, maybe make a donation to some charity in her name and party with the rest. I'd bet now that she would do the same; jewelry is about the most trumped up material on this planet!

I agree with packerbacker... the ONLY jewelry worth a flip is a wedding ring you share/wear with someone else. 'Course I do wear a sand dollar ear ring... long story for another time...

:P Aside from giving you fine folks a ring of that value... lol
Most of it's worth comes from the gold in the ring, and it's pretty big and heavy

There are quite a few diamonds in it as well.
What I want to know is... should we have the diamonds removed... sell the ring for gold and sell the diamonds separately?
It doesn't have any sentimental value, and it's not some crazy shape or design that she came up with, I think she just chose how she wanted diamonds arranged and what band style.
But she could have chosen to get this ring with less or more diamonds on it haha So that's what I mean by "specially made"

Gold has the value, I'm not so sure on the diamonds though

Anyway, the best thing is to grab whatever cash you can... Take a trip to Vegas, or Atlantic City and put it all on 00 on their roulette machine When you hit, you'll be in for a big payout... If you miss, all well, it's found money anyway

Upon appraisal by a reputable jeweler, ask them where you
might get the best sale price. If the jeweler is honest they
will most likely point you in the best direction. Second
or third opinions are called for with such a valuable piece.

I agree with pronghorn. BTW, they had a recent "in the news" story of a woman who found her trinket broach was work thousands. In the article she talked about the process of getting it appraised and something about what/how it could be sold at auction for.
