Looks to be a French M1866 Chassepot bayonet. Are there any markings visible on the blade?

It's not that one, they are very similar, but look at the loop, the OP's bayonet has a tightening screw in the loop, the Zuoave bayonet doesn't have the screw

Is this the screw you where taking about?

That's the one.

There were several different bayonets that all look very similar to yours, most are marked in some way, but not all. Another key difference between the French bayonet and the American Zouave is that the cross guard on the French model is a separate piece from the grip and made of iron, while on the American version they are one solid brass part.

Just speaking up with proof that what NOLA_Ken said is correct, it is definitely a French Model-1866 Chassepot sword-bayonet. Though officially designated as the Model-1866, it continued in service with the French Army through 1914. Go here for photos and info: French Model 1866 "Chassepot" (Yataghan) Sword Bayonet

There were markings sometimes on the top of the blade close to the handle, hard to read but check it out.
