P.S. What do you guys think about the sunray probes? I have an M6, I've heard they're difficult to use since the pinpoint switch has to be pushed forward and held. Thoughts?

Garrett Pro Pointer has always had my back

Kinda what I'm leaning toward...

Haven't tried many..I'm stuck on the Falcon MD 20..

Whites TRX is the current hand held depth king. Very happy with it!

I'm seeing what you guys prefer to use, and why... I have the White's Bullseye ll. I would love some input on one with a little better distance, at max sensitivity mine only does about 1/2"-3/4", on a coin-sized target.
I too use an m6 quite often, here's my experience. I don't like the sunray only because my buddy's have them and I feel they slow the user down plus they add weight to the machine, more wires dangling, depending on machine you have to rebalance the unit every time. I have the garret propointer and the whites trx. The propointer does not play well with the m6! You get a lot interference when using it. You also get interference when using the trx, just not as much. The trx I find to be too powerfull(even if you can adjust the sens it's a pain to do it every time) and an oxymoron. Why anyone would want a "deep" pinpointer is beyond me. I find when I place the trx in the hole it sounds off from all over the place. The garret propointer has just enough depth to put you right on your target and is my choice everyday I detect. I'm willing to work through the interference as it's that good IMO. This is coming from a person who loves whites products. GL HH Mike

So change the default master depth setting form 3 to 2 and you will have a Propointer!:-)
I don't really understand why one even needs to detune the TRX.. the closer you are to the target the faster it beep.. I hardly ever detune (ratchet) it down.. I can even tell a 3 inch from a 4" target by how fast it beeps before I open the ground.. Guess it is about "HOW" each person does things.. never having a ProPointer, the TRX is perfect.

That's just it, too much going on with the trx. Too many functions, too much adjustability, just too much. In my opinion whites overcompensated on what should be a simple, quick, easy to use tool. And the propointer is just that, simple and rugged. I do like that you can change the shell on the trx if it ever wears out, but in my case it never will. Hey, wanna buy a slightly used trx? To each their own, as long as one is comfortable with what they have.

Yup, some Metal detectors have 1 knob, some have computers.. whatever works!

Amos, the Whites TRX has good depth. I've switched over to it from my Propointer. The SunRays are great, but unit specific.

I totally agree. If you want a replica of the Garretts in the TRX, just set it to 2 and forget about it. The TRX simply has way too much to offer to piddle around over whether the TRX is too strong. Detuning is easy and you do not have to repeat the setting from #2 once set each time. Peeps seem to just ask for difficulties.

I have the garrett, minelab, and the white's. I have had two garretts go bad and would never recommend anyone buying one. I like the minelab but the white's is by far the best of the three. If it is too powerful turn it down it is easy and stays at what ever setting you put it at, plus it is sensitive only at the tip making it a breeze to find target.

Garrett pin pointer. It s bullet proof and mine has been water proofed

Let's roll over the facts! The average pinpointer range on a dime is between 1/2" and 1".
They all do about the same thing in a basic way. They tell you where a very small target is in a tight location. You use you detector to find the target and your pinpointer to narrow it down on small targets that are hard to see.
OK, since they all do the same thing, I go for the lowest price. They range from $16 for the Harbor Freight to almost $200 for the branded units. Hay, they have to pay for all that advertising and all the free replacements don't they. lol Frank...-

I've been happy with my Garrett PP. It's used and abused, takes a licking and keeps on ticking!

Wish it only PP'd on the tip though so I may look into the TRX.

This is the day of new science. If all you want is a beep beep a half inch from the target then go the "average" thing. The big dog on the new hunt is the TRX and if you still only want average then hit the button a couple times and it will do your average. Or, if you want the to reach out into that clump or use it as a pre dig tool for definite location it will also do that, where the "average" pointer cannot reach that deep. All the quality pointers are now selling for about the same price and sponsor vendors here will do their best to see that that happens. Why not get the best and be done with the rest. If you took the time to research for your base detector and purchased the best for that job then I would think that you would want to complement it with a matching top rated pointer.

Hay, I bought a good detector, an XLT. It pinpoints most targets to the point where I can insert my probe and touch it, But there is the occasional hard to see target like a #6 shot or a tarnished copper. For those I just want a pinpointer that goes beep beep at about 1/2". Why pay $160 when I can get the same results for $16? Frank...-
